Carmen Acevedo Butcher Ph.D. Joins CAC’s Core Faculty!

We’re honored to announce our newest member of the Center for Action and Contemplation (CAC)’s core faculty — Carmen Acevedo Butcher, Ph.D.!

Carmen Acevedo Butcher, Ph.D., is an award-winning translator, author, educator, and poet. She teaches in the College Writing Programs at UC Berkeley and is our newest core faculty member at the Center for Action and Contemplation. Her translations of Christian mystical classics, such as “The Cloud of Unknowing” and “Practice of the Presence,” have been praised for their accessibility and depth.

May we remember compassion helps preserve each other’s divine belonging.

Although Carmen is new on our core faculty team, she has been a long-time contributor to programming here at CAC.

She has regularly co-hosts our online events and you can catch her teaching at our upcoming ReVision conference and in our newest Living School program, Essentials of Engaged Contemplation

You may have also heard Carmen featured on many CAC podcasts. She recently joined Brian McLaren to co-host season 8 of Learning How To See. In the season 8 premier, Carmen discussed how her daily walks help guide her into a contemplative posture. She also explored how she has been seen with eyes of love: as a child, by her mother, and by a teacher.

Carmen’s words are also often featured in our Daily Meditations. Explore this year’s theme, Being Salt and Light more in depth with Carmen’s signature insight and care.

Get a taste of Carmen’s inspiring teaching style in this playlist featuring her recent teachings.

We are excited to welcome Carmen to our core faculty team, alongside Brian McLaren and James Finley!
