Rev. Dr. Otis Moss III on Thriving in Turbulent Times

Author of “Dancing in the Darkness” Shares Lessons from The Heart of Black Spirituality
March 28th, 2025

We love the opportunity to sit down and go deeper with authors featured in our Daily Meditations. Today, we invite you into this conversation with activist Rev. Dr. Otis Moss, III — perhaps you will even discover a new perspective on our 2025 Daily Meditation theme Being Salt and Light.

In this video, Rev. Moss explains that “love without justice is simple sentimentality. And justice without love becomes legalism or brutality. But, when love and justice are married… they end up producing children. One child named ‘Liberation,’ and the other child named ‘Transformation.’

America is not comfortable with love linked to justice. We want retribution, not distributive justice. We want sentimentality, not love.”

What would it mean to you to welcome more liberation and transformation into your life? After watching this video, we invite you to sit with this question, perhaps even using it as a journal prompt.

Our free Daily Meditations invite contemplatives from around the world into these sorts of meaningful questions. We hope you’ll sign up to join our Daily Meditations community.
