Listen Now: Learning How to See, Season 4 Bonus Episodes!

How do we more clearly see what is? The Learning How To See podcast, hosted by Brian McLaren, is back with four bonus episodes exploring just that.

Brian, who serves on CAC’s faculty, has dedicated his life to leading people through a nuanced and compassionate understanding of the Gospel, even if it means moving beyond mainstream Christian theology.

If you are wondering how your faith can respond with compassion to the LGBTQ community or if Jesus can really heal, these are the types of issues this season will explore.

Episode 1: Action and Beliefs and God’s Intervention

In this first bonus episode, a listener writes in after losing their young sister-in-law to cancer. “Does God intervene? Does Jesus heal? What am I doing when I pray for people? What precisely is the gospel?” If you also feel that your prayers are going unanswered, this thoughtful episode is for you.

Episode 2: Community

In this episode, a devout Catholic listener writes in asking, “If I support my grandson who is gay, what do I do with my faith?” Tragically, some Christian communities are reluctant to include the LGBTQ community, but this doesn’t have to remain the case. Brian responds, acknowledging the grief caused by systemic homophobia, and offering hope for those trying to create a new kind of Christianity.

Episode 3: Jesus and Theology

Fundamentalist faith requires an unquestioning acceptance of miracles in the Bible. If you are moving away from a fundamentalist worldview, how can you make sense of these supernatural stories? For example, how can we make sense of the virgin birth and resurrection? Brian explores the differences between “fact” and “truth.”

Episode 4: Navigating Faith Shifts in Marriage and Relationship

In this final episode, a listener writes, “In my long-term marriage, how do I handle it when one spouse goes through a major shift in thinking, while the other is doubling down on the old beliefs?” This conversation sensitively explores deconstruction and the complex dynamics in intimate relationships.
