Letting Heartbreak Be Your Guide
What would your life look like if instead of following your bliss, you followed your heartbreak?
In this thoughtful conversation, Episcopal priest and Center for Spiritual Imagination co-founder Fr. Adam Bucko, sits down with CAC’s Digital and Print Publications Manager, Mark Longhurst to discuss his book Let Your Heartbreak Be Your Guide, and the role radical resilience plays in our lives.
Adam reflects on the inspiration behind the title of his book: “When we hold onto our heartbreak and our aliveness — when we really meditate on it — when we hold those questions with every cell of our being, something cracks and there’s this sense that arises in us. And I call that the Holy Spirit or the impulse of God.”
By embracing our heartbreak, Adam explains, we gain a stronger practice of resilience that carries us through difficult times. “Resilience is really about the life of God flowing into us and remaking us, renewing us, transforming us, and transfiguring all of the broken pieces of our lives into something that is whole, something that reflects God.”
He continues: “Whenever I allow myself to experience that, it comes with a tremendous joy… Contemplative prayer really changes us.”
What is your practice for allowing the life of God to flow through you?
