Celebrating February’s Holidays | Black History Month and Ramadan

This February, as we celebrate Black History Month and the start of Ramadan, we invite you to reflect on our past and discover inspiration in interfaith practices.
Black History Month: Celebrating Those Who Came Before Us
Black History Month is a time to reflect on the experiences and triumphs of Black Americans. Dr. Barbara Holmes (1943-2024) wrote that our “ancestors inspire us and steady our courage during times of trouble. Some are personal ancestors who set examples for future generations in the family. Others are collectively shared ancestors — people like Harriet Tubman [and] Nelson Mandela.”
How do our ancestors, personal or collective, continue to inspire loving action today? Read the comments and share your prayer request on Facebook or Instagram.
Ramadan: A Season of Revelation
On February 28, many of our Muslim friends begin celebrating the holiest month in Islam — Ramadan. We are inspired by the wisdom in this month of spiritual practices and find many of them applicable to people of all faith traditions.
This can be a month to volunteer your time and money generously. Set aside time to meditate, self-reflect, or read spiritual texts. Lastly, consider exploring themes of self-discipline. Can Ramadan inspire you to begin a project that you have put off for too long?
What deeper wisdom can self-discipline help you discover? Read the comments and share your prayer request on Facebook or Instagram.
