CAC Honors July Holy Days and Holidays | Disability Pride Month, Dharma Day, and Bonaventure Feast Day
This July, the Center for Action and Contemplation (CAC) embraces holy days and holidays that invite us into moments of reflection and celebration.
Disability Pride Month: Commemorating the ADA Act
On July 26, 1990, the Americans with Disabilities Act was passed into law in the USA. We honor that milestone during the month of July by celebrating Disability Pride Month — including National Disability Independence Day on July 26.
We hope this month will serve as a moment to celebrate the wide range of human abilities and experiences. Explore more perspectives on this Daily Meditation from our vault called, “To Love Unconditionally,” by Tim Shriver, an activist and serves as the Chair of Special Olympics.

Bonaventure Feast Day: What Can We Learn From “The Seraphic Doctor?”
July 15 is the feast day of St. Bonaventure, a moment to celebrate the 13th-century mystic who is at the heart of the Franciscan movement.
Bonaventure once wrote: “No one can be made happy unless he ascends above himself, not by a bodily ascent, but by one of the heart. But we cannot be lifted up above ourselves unless a higher power elevates us. However, many interior steps are set out, and nothing will happen unless divine aid comes to our assistance. Divine aid will come to the assistance of those who ask for it with a humble and devout heart: that is what it is to sigh for it ‘in the valley of tears,’ which takes place through fervent prayer. Therefore, prayer is the mother and source of all lifting up.”
