A Story From Cynthia

Lily the Cat arrived at my hermitage in Big Sur on the Feast of the Annunciation—a rain-drenched little feline ball of resilience. Over seventeen years Lily would show me how concern can be one of the deepest forms of love. When she died on my birthday in 2015, she taught me an even greater revelation—the expanding awe of death and resurrection.

“The journey to the wellsprings of hope is really a journey toward the center, toward the innermost ground of our being where we meet and are met by God.”

– Rev. Dr. Cynthia Bourgeault
