CAC Community Code of Conduct
CAC Community Code of Conduct
At the Center for Action and Contemplation (CAC), we believe that transformation is most deeply supported when learning happens alongside others. Whether online, virtual, or in-person, we offer spaces where spiritual seekers can engage with Christian contemplative wisdom and practices, fostering connection, growth, and healing. We welcome and honor people from all backgrounds, religions, cultures, and lived experiences.
Our Community Code of Conduct strives to ensure that all CAC’s community learning experiences—online, virtual, and in-person—remain welcoming, respectful, and supportive for everyone. We ask all participants to honor the guidelines outlined in this Code of Conduct, so that we may work together to foster an environment of inclusivity, kindness, and mutual respect as we work together on our transformative journeys:
- Be considerate and respectful of others’ beliefs and perspectives—respecting and not dismissing the lived experiences of others. Approach online, virtual, and in-person conversations with a contemplative spirit and a willingness to have your heart and mind opened to new ways of thinking and being.
- Constructive disagreement and differences of opinion are welcome. Personal attacks, argumentative behavior, and deliberately provocative posts or discussions are not tolerated.
- There is absolutely no tolerance for racism, sexism, ageism, homophobia, profanity, or any form of hate speech. All offensive or threatening comments will be removed from any online discussions or chats, and/or the participant may be banned from further use of the online platform or participating in virtual or in-person experiences.
- There is absolutely no tolerance for giving another participant unwelcome sexual attention or behaving in a way that contributes to a sexualized environment. This includes sexualized comments, jokes or imagery in interactions, communications or presentation materials, as well as inappropriate sexual advances, either online, virtually, or in-person.
- CAC does not offer professional counseling on its online platforms, nor should participants. Please refrain from attempting to rescue, fix, psychoanalyze, or evaluate another individual.
- For facilitated online, virtual, and in-person discussions, keep your comments relevant to the theme of the prompt, post or content. You may share your own personal experience or other related resources (articles, videos, etc.) that add value to the conversation.
- Sharing personal or commercial materials, blogs, videos, or websites that are promotional in nature and have not received prior approval from CAC will be flagged for removal. Spam-like posts will be removed.
- In some cases, discussion forums are not the place for technical questions. Please follow the unique guidelines for each online platform regarding where and how to direct your technical questions.
- Share only public domain items and/or content for which you hold the copyright or have received permission to use. Images, poetry, and other material posted in potential breach of copyright will be removed.
- The CAC will never, and other participants should not ask for personal information over a chat forum. Do not share passwords, financial information, or personal information over public forums.
- Help keep CAC’s online platforms and in-person experiences safe, respectful, and constructive by flagging spam and by notifying CAC of any potential problems or inappropriate behavior. Encourage other participants to follow these guidelines.
- Respect the privacy and consent of others: do not photograph, record, or share others’ images, stories, or contributions without permission from the individual.
Potential consequences for violating the Community Code of Conduct
- CAC has a zero-tolerance policy for abuse of any kind. All claims will be investigated and, if substantiated, you will be immediately removed from the CAC’s online platforms, virtual events, and/or in-person experiences and may be prohibited from participating in future CAC community programming.
- If you violate these guidelines in the Community Code of Conduct, you may be reminded of these guidelines and/or permanently removed from CAC’s online platforms and/or prohibited from participating in virtual and/or in-person experiences.
- CAC reserves the right to remove inappropriate comments and/or block you from further participation across CAC’s online platforms and/or events.
CAC reserves the right to remove participants from, and/or refuse registration to, any CAC offering or event at any time.
Reporting a Code of Conduct Incident
All reports made to CAC are taken seriously and will be evaluated and managed by the CAC team.
- For CAC Connect violations, we encourage students to report incidents that violate the CAC Community Code of Conduct by contacting the course or network facilitator and provide the following information (if relevant to your report):
- Link to the area of incident
- Screenshot of the violating text
- Description of the violation
- Visible name of violating user
- For violations that occur at online events, please contact our community support team with a description of the violation, including date, time, and any other relevant information. Please include a screenshot of the violating text and visible name of violating user if applicable.
- For violations that occur at in-person events, please locate the nearest CAC staff member (identified by staff badges and/or shawls) or visit the registration desk to make an immediate report. You may also contact our community support team after the event with details, including date, time, and any other relevant information.
- For in-person events, if you notice that another participant requires immediate medical or behavioral health attention, please notify a CAC staff member immediately, and if it is an emergency, dial 911.
If you are the subject of a reported incident or if you wish to report inappropriate behavior, we will strive to maintain the anonymity and confidentiality of all individuals involved. There may be times, however, when the CAC team may request permission to identify the individual(s) in order to engage in necessary correspondence to gather additional information to be able to advocate for a fair process and resolution.
